My major gripe are locals who go to the strip often. My wife works at one of the salons on the strip, and a big thing is always trying to get locals in there to build her clientele. Its hard enough already, but add in the parking fee, and people arent going to be a repeat customer.

Just hope that they never charge locals (not holding my breath). BTW the parking garage is a cluster now.

We'll see if this costs them a lot of revenue in the casinos. MGM is pissing off a lot of their customers by doing this.

That is not how they are doing it. If you have a valid Nevada driver's license you get to park free for up to 24 hours. Whether you have Nevada plates or out state plates has no effect on the free parking offer.

I can't imagine what it's going to be like coming out of there after a major event. It was crazy before paid parking.

Do we have anyone here working in an MGM property? Is it having an effect yet?

It's only a few days since they started. What effect do you expect? Empty casino floors and hundreds of people protesting outside? With all of the talk about this from about 1% (if not less) of their customers, there will be minimal effect on MGM. First, that got a ton of free publicity and any free publicity is good publicity... example Donald Trump. Second, as a business they want to weed out the cheapskates from the high margin customers and this is a great way. There are millions of people coming to Vegas for whom $10 a day isn't a make or break decision and it what an easy way to figure out who these people are and aren't than a basic parking fee. Just watch Caesars' revenue per customer plummet when all the cheapos park in their garage and stick a whopping $10 in a penny slot and sit there for 3hrs getting free drinks.

Seriously, what effect are you expecting in 3 days?
