IIRC he got the golf course as part of the DI purchase. He's just been banking that land, looking for an opportunity to make use of it.

I have to wonder if it would be profitable at this point to build some condos along the back edge of it. Condos have not been a huge hit in Vegas, but they might be worthwhile.

I was expecting it, 2 Letters to the Editor in the LV Review Journal today, slamming Wynn for his wasting of water, and I'm sure there'll be more to come.

So, they'd prefer he keep the golf course which wastes more water?

Here is the average Las Vegas locals demands of Steve Wynn:

1. Don't waste our water with a lake..unless you are going to let locals in for free, parking included.
2. Keep the food as it is, but stop ripping us off in the buffet. Lower the price to $9.99 like it was when Vegas was great.
3. Get rid of all the dumb slots and put in hundreds of 100%+ payback video poker and the loosest blackjack games in town.
4. Give us a comp meal if we lose $20, times are tough you know. Actually make that a comp when we bet $20, gotta give us locals some love.
5. Start sending out coupons again for like $20 free play and stop with the nonsense of having to play it through. If I am not feeling it after $2 of losses let me walk with the rest.
6. Make every show have a locals ticket deal, no one should have to pay more than $30 a seat when we got families and mortgages and all right?

How many of these demands do you think Mr Steve is going to give in to???

He's made millions (or billions?) by not.

About the water, when he bought the Dunes, it came with a whole bunch of water rights. That's how he got to build the Lake at Bellagio. I can't say I know this, but I wouldn't be surprised if his purchase of the DI was the same, especially since it came with the golf course.
