I am looking to move to Vegas sometime in the coming months and I was curious about security work. I currently live in NJ and have worked in the security industry for 10+ years in management. What is the prospect for jobs in Vegas. I've been applying online but never get a response. Which I've read on here that it's hard to get a job without being a resident. But I really wouldn't want to move without having some kind of job lined up.

Also can nonresidents get TAM cards? And would it help with the job search already having the cards?

It's good to have cards on hand that means your ready for immediate hire. There are always security jobs here with all the conventions. Security jobs are in high demand and usually hire immediately so that is probably why your not getting a response as an out of state applicant.

Thanks for the response. Can I get the cards while I live out of state? So that I have them for when I finally move?

I'm pretty sure the TAM card requires you take a really easy test, but I believe you have to be in Nevada to take that test.

Generally speaking, regardless of the profession, employers here have been burned plenty of times by out-of-state applicants who apply on a whim and then decide after they get back home that they don't want to move to Vegas after all. It is much easier to be taken seriously if you have a local address, unless you are in a profession for which there is a lot of demand but little supply.

Thanks for the responses. Are there any issues with bringing out of state vehicles into Nevada. Emissions wise, like their is with California?

You will need to pass a smog test and register your car within 30 days.

Should not be hard to get a job in security here. Be it in the resorts or the residential areas. Keep in mind with the high transient nature of Clark County, there are so many existing, brand new and still under-construction apartment complexes in town. All these places have security patrols, armed and non-armed.
