Anyone who is against paying for parking would like this joke:
.
In New York, a guy walks into a bank. He tells the loan officer that he needs to borrow $5000 because he is going to Europe for a two week trip. The loan officer says the bank will need collateral for the loan so the guy hands him the keys and the title papers to his brand new Ferrari that is parked in the street in front of the bank.

Obviously, a $250,000 Ferrari is more than enough collateral so the loan officer gives him the $5000. The guy leaves and the loan officer drives the Ferrari into the bank's underground parking garage and parks it.

Over the next few days, the big joke among the bank employees is all about the foolish man that put up $250,000 collateral for a measly $5000 loan.

But, two weeks later, the guy returns from his trip and repays his loan. Plus $26.92 interest.

The loan officer says to the guy, "I want to thank you for your business, but I'm curious. While you were away, I checked and found out you are a multimillionaire. I don't understand why you bothered to borrow $5000 when you have so much money."

The guy replies, "Where else in New York can I park my Ferrari for $2.00/day and expect it to be there when I return?"

I just read a reply from the MGM Grand on a Facebook post that said "Hotel guests will not be charged for parking." Interesting.

I really think this concept is collapsing. We'll see if toward the end of may, if they either announce that they've reversed the decision, or don't announce anything, and let it quietly die.

Edit:

Just saw this.

http://lasvegassun.com/news/2016/mar...spots-near-ne/

It looks like they're trying to separate arena event parking from the general resort parking. This would make sense if they're going to ditch the concept of generalize paid parking for hotel/casino patrons.

A key tidbit:

Quote:
“Reserved Event Parking is an upgrade available for those who want to park as close as possible to the arena,” Absher said in an email. “We still have tens of thousands of free parking spaces available within easy walking distance of the T-Mobile Arena.”

Registered hotel guests will be able to access the garages by the arena for free, but all others will have to pay for parking from 4 to 11 p.m. on event days, according to Absher.

Parking will cost $10 or more at some spots near new arena - Las Vegas Sun News

A key tidbit:

THAT makes so much more sense. Since the arena is to blame for this sudden need of parking, let those attending events there pay for it. Don't penalize everyone because they built an arena without a parking plan in place

So arrive at say MGM or NYNY before 4PM and park for free. Hang out for a few hours in the sports book or something. Eat. Catch the show and go home.

I can live with that.

Or park at the Bellagio and ride the free tram to the Monte Carlo.

The MGM talking head essentially said that.

I think they might have gotten a little more backlash than they expected...all of those "I will no longer be an MGM customer if they implement paid parking" threats might have bothered them more than we all think.

How long a walk will it be from MGM public parking to T-Mobile arena? Doesn't T-Mobile have their own parking deck?

No...MGM got a waiver so that they didn't have to build a new parking deck for the T-Mobile arena because they have ample parking in the surrounding area.
