If you are a college grad apply immediately for a job with Enterprise Car Rental. They are one of my clients and run a terrific operation. You get full benefits in about 90 days and are considered a management trainee form day one.

I lived in Vegas for over 13 years. I live in Oregon now, and would never consider moving back. If I "Had" to, I would stay in the live in the Northwest part of town, or Green Valley if I wanted to be closer to the strip (and Lake Mead). I like the northwest area north of Ann Rd. It's mostly residential, close to Mt. Charleston and there are a lot of nice places to live. Some nice parks out that way and shopping is close too. The heat is the main reason I'd never go back, it's tough to deal with the first couple summers if you're not used to it.

So far I love it here. I would say do as much research as possible.
I live in Centennial Hills area (north of Summerlin) My area is pretty new but a distance from the strip.

Close and around the strip is shady area. Especially north vegas. (Lot's of crime)
hope you realize that you live real close where there's lots of crime... Aliante is only a couple freeway exits away... yep lots of crime....

So wrapped up my trip to Las Vegas on Sunday and I have to say, I liked the city a lot more than I had anticipated I would.

I stayed the first night in a Hampton Inn on Tropicana since my friend wasn't going to be in town until the next day (plus cheap rooms are a perk of working for Hilton so why not?). My boyfriend picked me up from McCarran and we went to IHOP for dinner (only the best) and he drove me around the area I'd be living for the apprenticeship, showed me where he and his family do all their errands and whatnot, and ended the night seeing Star Wars at Town Square Mall.

The next day my friend picked me up from the hotel, we went to breakfast at the Egg and I, then walked the Strip because it was her first time in Las Vegas. We ended up staying at an AirBnB (per my request) in Spring Valley, since I wanted to get a feel for what it was like living in the city without staying on the Strip. Being that far out from the Strip I got to "act" like a regular person living there; getting gas, going to the store (I liked Smith's, it reminded me of Fred Meyer here in the PNW), etc. My friend wanted to spend most of her time going into casinos and resorts (understandably), but since I've been there/done that, I hung out with my boyfriend most of the time. We went to King Putt and played a game of mini-golf, walked around the Galleria (he had a coupon for PacSun ), we drove around Henderson and that area (I really love the views of the mountains from that side of town), and went and had dinner at Glutton near Container Park.

Container Park and Fremont East was easily my favorite part of downtown. I wasn't too impressed by Fremont Street Experience, but I liked the vibe of Fremont East, especially because it feels like the area is undergoing reinvention and I got the feeling in the few years it'll be a really cool little area. I was stressed my entire flight thinking I was so invested mentally that I wouldn't actually like being there, but once I got off on my own and was able to walk around and explore past the Strip, that feeling disappeared. We also over the course of the weekend took a ride on the High Roller, watched the Bellagio Fountains, and saw the volcano show at the Mirage. On my last night in town I splurged on two tickets for the Mandalay Bay aquarium because he loves aquariums.

All in all, I had a really awesome trip and my drive to do well at my apprenticeship is in overdrive now, because I think I'll really like living in LV. Getting a job with this company isn't detrimental to me living in Las Vegas, but it sure would help since I would prefer not working in hospitality any longer

If you want some time to find an area to live in after you arrive, there are plenty of extended stay places around the city. You don't have a lease, and you don't have to pay utility deposits. When we arrived our house wasn't finished, and we stayed at one of them until it was done.
