I know this is a Vegas Forum but how is the city of Laughlin NV? A friend of mine is thinking about moving to Laughlin. He wants to be close to Vegas but not live in Vegas. Thanks.

Laughlin is super hot in the summer. Not sure if it is hotten than Phoenix, AZ or not, but it sure felt like it. I visited there when it was about 120 once. Just think hot, dry, dusty. Pick Vegas, but try the perimeter of the valley, where most of us live.

Try Pahrump if he still does not want to be in Vegas, but wants to be close enough to it. He might like it, it's like the town that time forgot. (sorry cre8lite)

Lived there for ten years. Few good doctors and no good hospital. You need to go to Vegas for specialists and shopping. Everything is in Bullhead City, AZ and that is another story. Your friend should think long and hard before he even considers that area to live in. When we left one year ago there were two doctors in Laughlin. Section 8 housing is becoming very plentiful in Laughlin and guess where they have to go to the doctor? Arizona doesn't take Nevada Medicare patients, think about it. It's not all about doctors and health care, just not a healthy place to live for several reasons.

Left the state (and the South West) and never looked back.

Sorry, Arizona does take Medicare patients. I meant to say that Nevada Section 8 folks have to keep their healthcare in Nevada.

Just trying to be helpful to newcomers. I wish someone had clued us in before we moved to the area.

Section 8 doesn't have anything to do with medical.

You are talking about Medicaid, which is state-specific. Medicare is Federal health insurance and section 8 is housing.

They are relevant as it would be safe to assume that most,if not all, Section 8 occupants are not privately insured and in fact on Medicaid....don't ya think ?
