We enjoy the excuse for a little road trip to get tickets when it's big.
I get my money's worth in entertainment discussing what things we would do and shopping for things on line....like islands

I was at a dinner party last night and 10 of us each threw in $10. One couple was already planning the drive to Baker this morning, so it was easy peasy. Although we did draw up a contract with all signatures agreeing to split the cash disbursement in case one of us hits it

I was wrong about the 700M. It's now 800M. Wow! I think that's the highest I have seen.

Thanks for offering to buy a ticket for me but we are going to Baker to get one. It's an excuse to get jerky too.

Some friends were at Rosie's this morning and there was no line. I didn't know they were going till they were back home.

It's $2 now? That probably tells you how long it's been since I bought a ticket!

If you're gonna make that long trip, might as well buy one for the mega lotto (CA) too. It's only $1, and at 165 million tonight.

It only took me about 2 minutes in line this morning, and the store is around the corner. But like most in this thread, I only every buy a ticket when it's really high like this, sounds like it will be a fun excuse for a road trip once or twice a year.. Still way way way cheaper than all the taxes to support the free stuffers and illegals living in the prk.

Here's a way to put the odds in perspective. If the prize money was hidden in someone's home somewhere in this country, you would have about twice the chance of finding it by randomly knocking on the right door (one in 123 million) than you would of winning this jackpot (one in 292 million).

Don't people know others or have relatives in other states? Just call and Say Send a couple tickets and give them the money. Just put the cash in the mail. They buy the ticket and mail you the tickets or have them text you a pic of the ticket(s) stating they bought them for you.

Easy to do sports book bets this way, too.

Still better odds than not buying any tickets, which is Zero. I haven't played in years, but happened to stop at the local 7-11 and when checking out the cashier asked me how many powerballs I wanted. I saw the prize amount and took one, and told him if I won I'd come back and buy him a hot dog. Worth the $2 for his reply "thanks a lot, the other people at the homeless camp are always stealing my hot dogs."

The opportunity cost -- gas, tickets and a few hours of a person's productive day -- invested properly, could make many people financially comfortable. But that's the hard way. It's really freakin' easy to "buy a ticket and dream." The strategy, "work hard, invest smart, and prosper," takes more effort.

That's why when you see the TV footage of the latest Powerball winners, it's invariably a couple of doofuses who can barely string a sentence together for the camera. "We wanna thank Jeebus for this blessing!"

IGT offers an 8-digit Megabucks slot jackpot every day in Las Vegas, but instead, locals travel out of state for a chance at 9 digits.

Have you heard of IGT's Powerbucks slots? They're only available now at Boyd and Caesars casinos, but the jackpot is linked to a couple of other states. Base jackpot amount is an inconsequential $1 million, but IGT suggests that with additional casinos and states, the jackpots could occasionally exceed $100 million.

That should be interesting to watch.
