Worked fine for me. We're 44 out of 50. What surprises me is that California is #16.

Wow just wow. I blame most of the bad drivers out here on California. California is one of the only places in the country with worst drivers than here.

California isn't a state known to enforce laws - plenty of people break them and aren't caught.

Whoever wrote this article had no understanding of statistics. They took the entire data set (fatalities per 100 million miles traveled), broke it into four subsets, then averaged the rankings of the complete set and the four subsets to get an average rank. Then they ranked the average ranks to get the overall rank. The result is meaningless.

The most recent statistics provided by the NHTSA are for 2013. Nevada had 1.06 fatalities per 100 million miles traveled, slightly under the US median of 1.09. The worst state was Montana at 1.90.

If I remember correctly, we are the absolute worst for vehicles hitting pedestrians but not necessarily that bad in other contexts.
