My wife lost her passport and needs to get her DS-11 form witnessed at a Passport Acceptance Facility, like a post office or county clerk's office. There is no answer on the number for setting up appointments at a local post office (702) 361-9209. We just get an automated message that no one can take the call.

Because we haven't been able to get through to make an appointment, we're thinking of dropping in at one of the clerk's offices where they do passport acceptance. Anyone ever done this, and was there a long wait?

I haven't done that, but all we did both times was go to the post office. No calling for appointments. They took care of everything, including the pictures. Our original passports were done at the Main Post Office on Sunset Rd by the airport, and we renewed at the post office on Tenaya. In fact the guy who took the pictures was very good, because he didn't make us look bad.

My local post office will do passports up to 2PM. So I guess they do have some restrictions.

We didn't know what the line would be like at the Post Office w/o an appointment, so we went downtown and ended up in line at the Marriage Bureau (wouldn't have been my first choice). The good news is that they were completely familiar with the process of witnessing the forms and insuring they were complete, then sealing them up in an envelope, and putting their official seal on the envelope for the expediter to take to the passport agency.

The bad part was the 30 minutes we spent waiting in line, and the fact that we didn't have a giant bottle of sanitizer to bathe in after we left the building.

Look at the bright side. Your immune system is now in high gear and developing immunity to a whole set of things it did not know existed. Probably add a year to the set you get.

It is also fun to watch.

I never would have thought of that. In fact my last trip down there was in 1973, and was very unfortunate for me for about 18 years.

The two other passport acceptance facilities I know of (besides Post Offices) are the Marriage Bureau at 201 E. Clark, and the County Clerk Commission Division at 500 S. GRAND CENTRAL PKWY.

Look for the word "Passport" under Services.

I renewed my own passport by just mailing my old passport and forms to the address in Philadelphia, and paying the State Dept. $60 fee for expediting (15 business days or less). I got it back in eight calendar days. I dropped my Priority Express mail envelope at the post office on the 13th and my new passport was delivered today.

I think that's good service. I frequently get mail for the people who live one street over from me who have the same house number. I learned to check before I open my mail. Once I was expecting a small package and just ripped it open to find it was my neighbor's prescription! I was embarrassed explaining that one! And I also got his passport!
