Thought this was interesting.
CARSON CITY -- Get ready to put the pedal to the metal -- Interstate 15 is about to shed its reputation as the slowest highway in the history of Nevada.
The Nevada Department of Transportation received the go-ahead Tuesday to begin work on a project that would create express lanes along a 5.5-mile stretch of Interstate 15, between Russell Road and Sahara Avenue. The state Transportation Board, chaired by Gov. Jim Gibbons, approved the $35 million project.

I can't wait for idiot drivers who will pop in and out of these express lanes despite the "candlestick barrier" Why not separate with concrete wall?

The tourists will be totally confused now!

I agree with you Chest, a cement barrier would be the best way to separate the express lanes from the rest of the roadway

i disagree on the cement walls, they added express lanes to 271 in cleveland with the walls and grass median.. when there is an accident, it is deadlocked.. if you break down, extra $120 for the tow truck because it is difficult to get to you... i think they should just add the lanes, forget the express idea.

I'm not all for the cement wall either. It would make it pretty difficult to get to a disabled vehicle. Although something needs to be there. Apparently the candlesticks don't damage your car (hah, ya right!), but I think people would be hesitant to drive through them regardless.

The HOV lanes here don't have any sort of barrier, except for signage stating that it's illegal to cross the lines ... yeah, like people pay attention to that.

IMO, I think it's a great idea, but they need to make up for the fact that PLENTY of people will not realize they can't get out of the lanes, therefore there is going to be plenty of tie-ups at both Russell and Sahara.

When you drive I-15 between Silverado Ranch and 215, there are some candlestick markers on the left side of the road already...so you don't hit the cement barrier or maybe to show people what they look like, lol...

So if we want to get off at Flamingo, Trop, or Spring Mountain we now only have three lanes to drive in? I don't think that is a good idea. They are going to take away one of our lanes, add one more and then have two for the express. That leaves the drivers who need to exit with three lanes instead of the four we have now.

candlepin is popular all over Massachusetts. I used to candlepin bowl at the Sudbury Bowladrome. Would see Kevin McHale with his kids there often. It used to be a highly rated show Saturday mornings on Channel 5.
