You know I'm not even going to lie. I would love a desk job or something but I graduated in 2008 and I entered the job market when it was very hard to get work. I have applied for years for jobs just to never even get an interview. Cocktailing was the only job where people were willing to give me an interview ( albeit group ones) and hire me. I feel I wasted my time with college but that's for a different thread. Working retail is something I would even be open to if they paid enough. Unfortunately cocktailing pays more. Cocktailing is enjoyable and it's the only job I feel where I can get myself hired and make enough to support myself. At one point I actually even tried to be a housekeeper but was rejected

That's the truth.

My closest friend was a showgirl in a prominent review. She has always been stunning and a great dancer. Every 3 months you are re-interviewed and try out again. Of course it isn't a career. It isn't even a stable job unless you base everything on 3 months of your life. I have always been under the impression she got this job thru an open casting call. Being a very smart woman, she danced herself proud, saved her money, developed other work skills while doing this and eventually went on to be an assistant to a high government official.

I think you (Again, I have NO IDEA about your looks, intellect, etc, so I am going to make some assumptions here)
seem to be reasonable intelligent, have a boyfriend (Former vet?) and you are in your late 20's - early 30's

I think you should keep the waitress job, but start applying as a booth / girl / rep for any of the hundreds of trade shows that are in Las Vegas all the time, If you can learn a product, and SELL the product, be MORE then a pretty face / body you can network, and maybe get a gig with a major company - DITCH the waitress gig, and take your life from there.

This is a town of Networking and juice, lure them in with your body, and WOW them with your mind.

Jonathan

If that's true, then her expiration date is nearing, if not past.

I applaud your attitude! Too many young adults these days are looking for a freebie, and have no idea what the word "work" means. Nothing wrong with using what the good Lord gave you, and it sounds like you have a very strong moral character. Keep working at it, you will get there if you do...

I was thinking the same thing. There's a lot of strength there as well as some good insight. I don't hear unrealistic expectations or delusions about what she faces. I don't know where she'll land, but I'm betting if we look her up in a few years she'll be doing well.

Ok here's how it works for the most part. Your not considered a server at the nightclub your hired on as a model. So if your have a influx of weight you have a certain standard to maintain. Girls are usually hired on by recommendations by current staff or get in by referral. Experience plays into it but looks and who you know get you the job. I work for one of the top clubs in Vegas. That's the protocol it is unspoken because we work for a corporation and HR says that's not the hiring practice is but in reality that's how it goes. And when the club makes over 100 million dollars everybody looks the other way.

Faceless,

I'd avoid the club route. If you can claw your way up to the top of the cocktailing food chain in those places, you'll make great money, until the place craters and closes, then you have to start all over again.

Stay with the casino floor cocktailing, and play the game to get into one of the major strip casinos that work under the Culinary contract. Once you get there and get seniority, it doesn't matter how old you get, they can't get rid of you without a really good reason. Go over to Caesars, and look at the women who have the best shifts and locations. Want to be they're not the youngest? Some of them have likely been there thirty years.
