Subject line says it all. Our a/c system needs to be either repaired or (much more likely) replaced. Anyone know any reliable places that won't rip me off? I've never lived in a house with central a/c and haven't had the chance to do a lot of research, so any Advice for Dummies is appreciated.

Also if you don't me mind riding your thread and ask this: What is best way to clean the ducts?

I hate not being able to access it. I don't trust the commercial cleaner.

Another vote for Lin-Air, they replaced my A/C unit with an american Standard 3.5 ton unit, for $8800 with a 10/10/10 Year warranty.

Chazell Air Conditioning and Heating.

HVAC Installation and Repair | Las Vegas, NV

If you're replacing a split system, don't forget to change the inside coil at the same time as your outside unit. The system performs best when the two are matched. Connecting a new condenser to a mismatched coil insures you'll never get the advertised efficiency.

Times two on the above, if it's a split system, change both indoor and outdoor sections.

Don't use large companies such as One hour and yes air. Stab and go installation is what you end up with at ridiculous prices.
Most important is a load calculation, under no circumstances go with a larger unit! You may even be able to go smaller. Almost impossible to find here but the contractor that knows how and is willing to do a load calculation would get my vote.

I cringe everytime I hear what people are paying for a/c changeouts, especially when a new unit can be had for less than 2 grand. Some people really get hosed with labor costs.

I bought from Dekes too and found them affordable and honest. I got quotes for repair or replacement from
seven different companies and prices ranged from $8400 to $4900. And several of those companies told me I needed to replace my furnace too. I bought a new a/c compressor from Dekes for $2800. This unit still uses the old style freon, but I have been told that there is still years and years supply available. Dekes also inspected my furnace and said there no need to replace it and that I should still gets years of use for it. Very happy and highly recommend Dekes!

Default Heating and A/C Unit replacement

Looking for updated recommendations on companies to replace my heating and air conditioning unit. Ones you've had personal knowledge/experiences with. I have an 1100 sq foot condo, the heating unit is in the ceiling and the a/c unit outside. I'm seeking quality as well as economical. Don't be afraid to 'steer' me away from ones you've had bad experiences with.

Thank you in advance.
