I have owned a company that does concrete coatings for 10 years. Any price under $4 sq ft I would be suspicious about. 485 sq ft is a smaller job so the price will go up. Grind should be a dollar a foot and the coating should be around the 3 to 4 dollar range. I hope this helps
Wow.Thank you so much for the info.

According to the estimate paperwork, it stated $5.00 sq ft. for 485 sq. ft. The total price is $2,425. Do you think that's too high?

jambini, what are your thoughts on using a clear coat after the application of Xcel? Is it just a way to pad the bill or does it really help in the Vegas weather? Thanks for your insight.

Clear coat can be good and bad. I won't put a solvent based acrylic sealer on a pool deck because it will get slick when wet. A water based clear coat won't be as slippery, but the water based won't last as long. Most companies don't use a clear coat. The clear coat will give you a couple years of extended life before the color fades. They probably won't tell you that you should either recolor (if no clear coat) every 2 to 3 years. If you do the water base clear coat you just need to recoat that every 3 to 4 years. My timeline may be off a little with your weather and if part of the deck gets shade during the day.

My advice would be to get more than one bid and make sure they are licensed. If you have time go and look at a pool they have done. The clear coat shouldn't be a big price upgrade because the product to do 485 sq ft is only about $65.

Spring is the most expensive time to do any pool related project.

Thanks jambini for the info. I did have another question. Are you able to spray a new concrete area which connects to an existing pool deck using the same color and product and will it blend somewhat? I know the color on the existing area will have faded but didn't know if you could touch up just a spot. Thanks.

It isn't a problem to do it. You are correct about the color but it shouldn't be that far off

Question Can you recommend your contractor?

They then painted the entire deck (the old kooldeck which was still in good shape and the new spraydeck). The painted surface stains A LOT easier and is much harder to clean than the old kooldeck.
I'm getting bids this week to have our pool re-plastered and repair some of the chipped kooldeck on the cantilever edge along the top of the pool. Would you mind sharing the name of the company who did your work? It was helpful to learn about the drawbacks of repairing chipped kooldeck. Thanks.
