Had you bothered to open in, you would see that that thread was actually a link to an article with that title. It was a funny list with things like "trying to recreated the hangover" or "owning a car with black leather seats" or "letting the water from Wet Republic get in your mouth".

10. Letting any of Wet Republic’s pool water get in your mouth

This isn’t the ocean. If chlorinated water is murky and green, it’s because the chlorine surrendered to stronger forces... body fluids and Kahlua.

A best decision would be to get out and enjoy the weather. We have blue skies most of the year, no reason to stay inside when surrounded by gorgeous mountains and open roads. Don't really have to worry too much by being attacked by wildlife or biting bugs. When it gets too hot, you just go out later and there's always something to do or somewhere to go.

Another best decision is to hang indoors during the summer months; at all of the places you were too busy to get too during the best outdoor seasons.

1. Only risk what you can afford to lose.
2. Quit while you're ahead.

It's easy to associate L.V. with the Strip/Casinos, and because every 7-11 has a couple slot machines next to the door, one can understand why.
Truth is, Vegas is a very diverse city with all the amenities of any other city, plus the best show business in the world. The best shows are pricey, so it you do it, you must do it in moderation. And, avoid the tables.
There are great golf courses, terrific restaurants (away from the Strip), skiing in St. George, UT (2-hr drive), and anything else you can imagine. Is it hot? Oh, yeah. But, that's why we have air-conditioning. The humidity is 10+%, which helps. I was in Miami in late April; the temp was high 80 and the humidity was too. THAT was unbearable compared to Vegas, IMO.
Looking to move to Vegas? If your not an entrepreneur, then get your employment lined up first. The idea of being a waiter in a gourmet restaurant in one of the casinos almost brings me to tears. $500+ a night job, though you have to share that with the captain. You'll probably have to be juiced into the job and you'll have to pay the F&B manager to get hired. But if you don't mind standing on your feet for 8-hours a night, with no chance of any career advancement, it might be for you.
Otherwise, use the same skills you'd use in L.A., Denver, or Dallas to find a career.

Raiderman: we are mid-forties empty nesters in Manhattan, looking to move to Las Vegas for the sun, tax savings, hiking, mountain biking, and proximity to national parks.

We've looked at Summerlin, Anthem, and Seven Hills. Any suggestions?

All three of those neighborhoods are the best places to live in Las Vegas, in my opinion. Low crime, lots of shopping/dining options. They are all quite similar, so it's important that you explore each one to get a feel for what you like best.

Good reasons to move

As logline said, all 3 are nice neighborhoods. Prior to moving, I considered Anthem, as I enjoyed staying in that neighborhood while I was here scouting. However, I am glad I am in Green Valley now, as I find myself often on the freeways, and enjoy the easy access from my neighborhood.

Seven Hills was a bit out of our price range, but a nice neighborhood, although, like Anthem, not quite as convenient for freeway access.

You really can't go wrong in any 3 of the neighborhoods you mentioned. Good luck with your search!

I live in Manhattan also. I keep having less and less reasons not to move.

I'm single, so when I get out there, I may just buy a condo. But if I wanted a SF house, the two areas I look in are up the hill Henderson (south of the 215), anywhere from Seven Hills, across GVR and McDonald Highlands, pushing to toward Boulder Highway.

On the other end is far west Summerlin. Generally west of the 215, up in the development that includes the Paseos. One advantage of that is that it's a a higher elevation, and will therefore be cooler.

It will also be cooler because the sun dips behind the Spring Mountains earlier in the day for residents on the extreme west edge of the valley. My aunt's place is over there. There is often a 20-degree difference.
