My wife and I recently moved to Las Vegas. We both enjoy going out for drinks - usually good beers or a well made martini.

The problem is that my wife *really* doesn't like cigarette smoke. (I don't like cigarette smoke either, but meh, I can usually just tune it out and ignore it). Are there any good bars or pubs in Las Vegas that are non-smoking, or that at least have non-smoking sections? Any advice appreciated.

Haven't found a decent pub in this town yet. It's all cigarettes and video poker. So we built our own "decent pub." We have a billiards room that doubles as our pub. Draft beer, billiards and classic rock -- any time we want it*.

Even if the average Las Vegas pub didn't reek like a never-cleaned-ashtray, the fact that nearly everyone has their heads down, staring at a video poker screen puts me off as well.

If I thought a decent pub that was non-smoking and no gambling could turn a profit in Las Vegas, I would open one. But there's no way I would ever see a single dollar in profit. I think I would save money by digging a big hole in my garden, filling it full of money, dousing it with gasoline, and igniting it.

* Usually it's just my wife and I, though. That's a rather limited clientele. We seem to be the only people in Las Vegas who don't want to smoke cigarettes and play video poker.

Both Due & Proper, and Whist Stove & Spirits in the District in Henderson are non-smoking and have a nice selection of beer and great martinis.

If you want to go just for a beer somewhere, any of the chain restaurants like Applebee's, Chili's, etc are non-smoking. But for ambiance and a more upscale place, I would recommend the aforementioned pubs in the District.

The smoking issue is as drab as an old ashtray and it will oribably never change. I shoot league pool and get so frustrated when we play and there is no one at the VP machines, yet no one there gambling, just smoking and letting a butt end smolder. And of course the kitchen is closed, so there is no degree of personal comfort in some of these bars. Smoky, hot, stuffy, and filthy. How is the bar making any money when all the smokers are not gambling like they should be like good little punters? These places won't improve their ventilation systems because they are too cheap. How they stay in business is amazing. Finding a small bar that does not fit this bill is really hard. There are some non smoking places but they are few and far between. I feel sorry for the staff. The larger casinos at least have a little ventilation. I love to shoot, so I tolerate it, but it is not pleasant. And I don't spend money or sit down to play if it is not comfortable. If the law required smokers to play, then all this would make sense.

I like the Draft House, on Rancho Rd between Lone Mtn Rd and Craig Rd, but usually go into the non-smoking restaurant part. I don't remember if you can smoke at the bar or not, but have sat out there and wasn't bothered by smoke. They have good micro brews made on the spot. Not sure if they still have the Big Dogs restaurants, but they kept the Draft House Open, and may call it Big Dogs now. I don't hang out in bars, but we eat out, and there are lots of good bars that serve food, and you can't smoke where they serve food. Without looking them up I'm not remembering names; but there is one across the street from Red Rock Station, and a Chicago Brewery facing Ft Apache just north of W. Sahara. They are all over town really. Just don't go to Steiners or Putters. I quit going to them a long time ago for the same reason ...and I'd bet they still smell like smoke even if they became non-smoking.

Wife and I go to Via Brazile on Ft.Apache/Charleston. No smoking, No video poker and there are usually people gathered at the bar chatting. Their happy hour prices are very reasonable. Food is great too.

Via Brasil Steakhouse l Authentic Churrascaria in Summerlin

We also frequent Chicago Brewing Company at Ft Apache/Sahara in Village Square. The dining room and I *believe* the bar is non-smoking. They do have Video Poker in the Bar I believe. There is a Cigar Bar upstairs where people go to smoke. The beers are great the food is good (I wouldn't say "great" but it is very good).

Go to a place thats a restaurant first but serves decent beer, wine, cocktails like Yard House or BJs or any of their clones. No video poker, no smoking. I think the only downside is limited hours (if you are trying to get a drink at 2am), and sometimes the waitstaff want you to eat and leave. It also sort of eliminates the social aspect if you wanted to strike up a conversation with the barkeep or other patrons because they may be eating and running, but just to drink and avoid smoke thats your best bet.
