I would feel pretty foolish right about now if I wasted my time, money and gas to buy one of these useless tickets.

I know not one, not two, but three people who won the state lottery. (Not Powerball.) One of them was a professor who didn't know a damned thing about finance. He used the lottery as his retirement plan. He hit the lottery for high seven figures and retired. He actually bragged about how sound his retirement plan was. "I don't understand why everyone doesn't do this."

The other winners were a couple from Florida who basically lived at a pool hall. They hit for low eight figures. Bought a brand new Corvette to drive up to the state capitol to pick up their big check. Within a year, one was dead from an overdose and the other was in jail.

I've got better uses for $1 than spending it on a voluntary tax in another state -- let alone spending $10 in gas and two hours of my time to waste $1 on a voluntary tax. The odds of winning are significantly better on progressive jackpot slot machines. Why not just spin one of those useless things every week?

Oh, man. The logic of that sentence hurts my brain.

Megabucks is 1 in 50 million. Still a dumb proposition. But less dumb than driving to the border to waste a dollar on a losing Powerball ticket.

I know a couple that won $3 million in one of the state lotteries. He worked on our family farm during the summers when he was going to college. They had two young kids and he had a pretty good job so I think they just invested the money for kids' college and their retirement. Most people aren't that smart with their winnings.

I might take a road trip to buy a ticket sometime because of a coworker pool, but it's partly just an excuse to take a cruise on the motorcycle

there are two types of people in this world:

those that love to play the lottery
and
those that love to complain about people playing the lottery

It is kind of like a drug. You buy a shot at the potential and you live in fantasy winner land in your head until the drawing then the effect wears off and you are depressed again.

Hehehe.
