CEO of Oracle lives in Woodside, CA,Steve Jobs lives in Palo Alto (went to same highschool as me BTW), I think Larry Page lives in SF but I think he also has a residence in the south bay. Sergey Brin lives in Palo Alto, Paul Otellini lives in the south bay as well. Cisco system's John Chambers lives in Los Altos Hills (west of Palo Alto).

Your correct, most of these rich guys live in the peninsula, north santa clara county or Marin.

Yeah I know. Knew a number of the ones over 50 personally. Used to work a day or two a week in Palo Alto and the rest of the week in LA.

The players have changed but the locale has not.

Good girl. Hang in there. You'll find what you're looking for.

I noticed these posts were a little dated, but my boyfriend and I are also planning to move from the east coast to vegas soon.
We found job fairs and we are heading out to vegas in a few weeks, attending 3 job fairs, searching for apartments/neighborhoods, and more job searching while we are there. we will be there for 7 days, hopefully that's enough time! what do you think of job fairs? anyone been to one? what do you think of the plan?

@tayla014: here is what I can tell you about relocating to Vegas and searching for a place to rent/lease. You may have a very hard time if you are not completely prepared for that week. I'm a Realtor here in town and help folks all the time do this. It's not easy to do but can be done. First, you will need lots of cash or a letter on company letter head saying you have a job and what you are paid with contact information so it can be verified. Second, you will need a process to be able to leave deposit money here with a friend or relative. You may be able to see a few places and apply when you are here (application fees run $25 to $75 per person). I hope you are using an agent, we usually don't (I don't) charge you anything as we get paid by the property management companies. Anyway, you will only have a short time to see properties so you have a plan to see several homes. As your agent to screen them first for availability (you don't want to waste your time on something that has applications pending). It will take a few days to get through their approval process. At this point, one of two things will happen: 1) you get approved and will need to pay the deposits and sign the lease or 2) you get denied and need to go to your second choice (and hope it is still available). So a well laid out plan should give you time to view and apply for at least one property and find out if you got it before you leave town. If you are lucky you can get in one more application process.

Gross earning requirements generally range from 2.5 to 3 times the rent amount. Credit requirements can range from 550 to 620 depending on the property management company. If you fall below these limits, the most under Nevada state law they can ask from you is 3 times the rent amount for the security deposit. They can also ask you to pay additional amounts of rent in advance. This why I mentioned having a bunch of cash on hand. This is a cash city and property managers know it has been a difficult few years so they generally will work with someone if you have cash.

I hope it goes well. Moderator cut: .

The job fairs here are basically worthless. Lots of scammers and few real jobs. There is absolutely no way I would move here without a job already lined up. You are setting yourself up for failure -- big time -- unless you have the funds to carry you through months of unemployment.

If you are looking for work in high demand fields like medicine, its next to impossible to find a job if you don't live in Las Vegas. You are going to need $1,000 + a month to live cheaply until you find something. Figure at least 6 months funds to live off before finding a job.

Wish you the best. Moderator cut: .

can you network with other people in your field to get a job elsewhere? i live in on the east coast new england area and i know its very hard her to find a job but i know if you live near the borders or close to another state ten finding a job might be a little easier as you would be commuting to work every day and they sometimes tend to overlook that.

good luck in your job search set up a po box for now if you can close to where you are looking save up enough money for at least 6 months rent plus living costs just to be safe so if you cant find a job right away at least you have some money to fall back on.
