I've looked at the crime index data here on city-data.com for las vegas, henderson, and my own town (Duluth MN) which i have considered relatively safe except for some pocketed areas. LV seems on par or slightly higher for crime (but not much) than my city of Duluth MN. Henderson has a crime index half that of LV or Duluth. All in all I just do not see LV nor Henderson of course as high in crime. Am I missing something? I suspect it must be like in my town of Duluth MN where 95% of the violent and drug crime seems to happen in a 5x5 block area (25 square blocks) and a few other pocks and street areas, but 90% of my city I would consider extremely safe.

So why do I read posts of some people saying the crime was so bad in LV that they left, etc.? Why all the gated communities in LV, Henderson, etc.? we do not have gated communities where I live, I have never even seen a gated community in my life.

Henderson was rated as the #2 safest city in the United States. I think it's now around #5 or so, depending on the report you read.

Gated communities are not for safety, they are for "exclusivity".

No it's not accurate and neither is the crimemapping site. Most of the violent crime does not show up there. I don't think any of the murders or shootings show up. I work at a school and we were on lockdown so many times during the year due to shootings, including at least 1 murder that I know of. NONE of the incidents showed up on the crime data map. I always checked. Someone looking in that area would have no idea that shootings are almost a daily occurrence there.

That makes sense. 99% of the crime that happens on or around Nellis air force base seems to never make it to the crime mapping sites either. I usually always check soon after any major incident. Any incident that happens at the Las Vegas Speedway never seem to make the mapping sites also. I have been involved with a couple(security side during Nascar/ED events) and its like they never happened.

If all the crimes that happen at the resorts on L VBS were reported, the crime rate would be through the roof. How many crimes involving pimps, hos, and drug dealers get reported?
