Hi all!
I will be moving my small family from NY to Henderson NV next month. Have 2 cars to move and not much crap in the way of furniture.
Has anyone done this before and is willing to share info with me?
I have allway's heard that there are many transplants there from the east and would like to hear from them.
Thank you.

If you look through some past threads, you'll find a TON of information of the experiences of East Coasters moving here. I'll give you mine in a nutshell.

2 of us, 2 dogs, 1 car.
Rhode Island to Henderson.

Used ABF U-Pack to pack our house onto a truck. They drove it across the country and dropped the trailer in our driveway. Cost - $2553

Drove a Nissan Rogue from RI to NV with the 2 dogs. Cost - $393 in fuel, $309 in hotels, $188 in food. We did not take the most direct route, as we visited friends along the way.

Day 1 - RI to PA.
Day 2 - PA to OH
Day 3 - OH to TN
Day 4 - TN to TX
Day 5 - TX to NV

We opted for the Southern route (I-40 from TN to AZ), as I didn't want to get stuck driving for days in the boring "Fly-over" states.

Good luck!

Followed Raiderman's tips when I got here in May. Though I sold all my furniture. I didn't rent a pod.

I'm sure there are as many NY'ers and MN natives here as there are native Nevadans. You will have lots of company.

I also urge you to get rid of furniture. You can pick up furniture here for next to nothing. I ended up moving too much and many things were damaged in the move or didn't fit the new house. I wish I would have gotten rid of more!

I went to RC Willey and got a dining set for $990.

Then I checked out this furniture near Chinatown. They had the same exact set for $699. They can order anything RC Willey has!

Argh, now I really want to return the dining set!

There are definitely deals here.. we just like a certain look. Most of our furniture is hand-made one of a kind by local craftspeople.
