I had a whole post composed in my head but really all I have to say is "ditto" to everyone saying if this wind is the worst part of the weather here, I'm good. We moved from the East partly because the drastic weather shifts gave my husband and I awful migraines. There this kind of wind is accompanied by rain, hail, and power outages. Also sometimes blizzards. Just wind and some dust? Happy day!

It's the winds in the winter time, when the temps fall into the 30's/40's at night, that's a killer for me, as I work the nightshift, up all night on my 3 days off! Windchill!

Legitimate reasons to complain
1 cold
2 rain
3 snow
4 hurricanes
5 tornadoes
6 floods
7 volcanoes
8 rain
9 humidity
10 constant 50+ mph winds

Anything other than that? shush

That wind felt great, kept it nice and cool out.

Agreed! When you look at annual average windspeeds in the country, we are, indeed, average, but why is it the winds seems more irritating out here, for some reason?

If I recall the numbers from my search, Boston is at 12.5MPH or so, San Francisco at 8.7MPH, Chicago at 10.9MPH, and where I once lived, Minneapolis, it's 10+MPH.

I would never leave Las Vegas just because of the wind. Yes it is a PIA when you have to work in your yard. It almost seems to wait until I have to work in the yard and then seems to start up around 12 noon every day.

If the wind turns into tornadoes on a regular basis then I'm out of here!!!

Keep in mind, I climb up telephone poles, on rickety ladders, supported by swaying cables.

Oh yes! Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana also get very strong winds. I bet it's more windy in the Inland Empire than in Las Vegas.

I think if the weather sites ever actually measured or predicted the wind speeds correctly this area would be much higher on the list. It seems their measurements are always about 10-15 mph below the actual wind speeds.

Still, the winds here are not nearly as bad as areas of Montana and Wyoming. Is the wind here annoying sometimes? Sure, but it is a mild annoyance compared to snow, ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, and high humidity.

I used to really hate the wind when I first moved here and my allergies were off the charts. Now it's just a minor annoyance if it's 30mph+. Really though, check out the weather for the whole country and we are sitting very pretty.
