I've always had a weird attraction to this city. I love everything outside of the strip, and think that the land around vegas is beautiful. I want to move, but don't want to be apart of the hectic strip with all the people coming and going. I've looked into henderson and that looks like a nice place to live, and was wondering if anyone knew of any other places, and if its easy to meet people that live there and arent just on vacation.

Any place in the outer ring is similar...Henderson than the South, the South Strip, The Southwest, Summerlin, The Northwest, The North. Places like Green Valley, Seven Hills, Anthem, Southern Highlands, Mountains Edge, Rhodes Ranch, Summerlin, Centennial Hill and Town, Aliante.

There is a map at ...

http://www.donohueteam.com/Las%20Vegas%20Map.htm

That shows where these places are located.

Life here is not as crazy and hectic as you would think. If you are out in Henderson, you could live there and never need to leave that side of the valley. Obviously you will have to interface with tourist and such at the airport, but I am rarely bothered by the crowds or tourists. After a while you learn to appreciate them because you will soon realize how important they are to this community.

I agree with all but the north, you need to be carefull up north, Avoid the east side of 15 and just be sure your north side is a ok place. past that I like summerlin and henderson, and all the rest are nice

No you don't. North of 215 is as good as south of 215. When you get inside of 215 you need to know what you are doing. North or south side.

West side is trickier yet...

East of 15 and north of 215.

Note that there are lots of very nice places in the area. Silverado for example.. On the same token though the rest of the city has lots of nice areas too. Some of the best addresses around are in the area between Rancho and Valley View and Sahara and 95...but not all that area...

Ok I said be careful up north on the east side of I15. That would be East of I15 on the north side. I thought I was clear, but this should clear it up more.

LV is known to many in this forum as a place that is difficult to make friends. Others will try to suggest otherwise.

If you love the desert landscape, but hate the strip, surely there are many other places to move out west than to the LV area, no?

The OP did not state they HATE the strip

I love everything outside of the strip

And my opinion is that it's one of the friendlier places you'll want to live in, providing you want to make and have friends..

I have so many wonderful friends that I've made here, folks from all over the country and the world that I've known now for years and years...

Outside the tourist corridor, life in LV is pretty surburban providing you choose a good area and community.

All of those listed by Olecapt would be my choices as well...

Good luck to you on your move, and welcome!
