So the in-laws have been threatening to visit ever since we moved here and it looks like they're actually doing it. Their visit will coincide with Mother's Day so we'll have to take them out.

They're not early risers, so breakfast is out. But afternoon brunch or dinner would work. I'm open either to a buffet or a restaurant that's not crazy expensive (hopefully keeping it under $150 for the four of us) because FIL eats like no tomorrow if he knows someone else is picking up the check.

Ideally I'd like it to not be a national chain type place, but something you can only do in Las Vegas, so they think it's special even if it's really not (lol).

Any suggestions?

You are setting yourself up for disappointment. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, is going to be hammering the Mother's Day buffet ALL DAY on Mother's Day. We're talking July 4 weekend at Disneyland lines at every resort in town, even the El Cheapo local casinos.

Forward this post to Mom and assure her that no buffet in Las Vegas is worth that kind of time and aggravation.

I know it's going to suck but we have to take her somewhere. No experience is too miserable as far as she's concerned, as long as it's all about her.

It doesn't have to be a buffet, though, but we're not going to go crazy $-wise.

Hahahahahaha. Have you seen Disney's Wally? Is that how it's going to be on mother's day with people "hammering" the buffet lines? LMAO

Our favorite place for brunch is Presidio at The District. $24/person for a breakfast entree (large portions), and bottomless Bloody Marys and Mimosas. Al fresco dining if you choose, or inside is an option. We go once a month or so and enjoy it every time. It's our usual spot to bring visitors for brunch.

You would do much better if you took them out that Saturday for Mother's Day dinner. You will be able to get into places a lot easier and the restaurant staff will be in a position to give you better service.

When I was in the business, Mothers Day was the busiest day of the year ... and it did not help that the restaurant management had giveaways for all mothers that day.

I will never step into another restaurant on Mothers Day or on Valentines Day.

This. (And add "any steakhouse" on Father's Day.)

Agreed. 100%. It's like going to church on Easter, or driving on New Years Eve. Amateur hour, and you have to put up with them.

Maybe the Aliante buffet? We are out in the boonies and less likely to be crowded. There's also a movie theater there.
