I'm quite interested in relocating to Las Vegas. I was wondering if anyone reading this post would have any knowledge about the job prospects for an IT person. I really appreciate it..Thanks!

Zappos.com. Send me a PM if you want more info.

The casinos may also have some IT jobs but I heard it is a very connected industry.

Not many IT choices here. Where are you moving from ?

I am in IT myself. But working remotely 100% for a Boston company. It's nice if you can arrange that. Total freedom from nasty Boston traffic and rude people and also no income tax. The lack of much sunlight over the 7 months of cloudy/rainy/snow weather in NE, has made the whole region very grouchy people.

Do you have IT skills that are in demand? If so you should not have any problems. A local address and phone number would go a long way as well.

2 just about 2 years ago I applied for Sr Systems Engineer positions at United Health Group and Bally Technologies. I interviewed for both and got offers from both. I took the Bally position.

I am not a job hopper but I am a workaholic and in the 6mo I was there I worked about half the time and just stared at an empty inbox and a phone that never rang for the other half.

I sent my resume to VMware when I saw them advertising for a Cloud Opeeations Engineer. I interviewed and got that position. Unfortunately I ended up working for a complete dousche bag and spent the vast majority of my time lugging boxes around inside Switch and very little (in fact none) of my time working in a technical capacity on vCHS which is what I was hired for.

Within a couple of months it was very clear I was not going to be doing any technical work so I sent my resume to a recruiter and they got me an interview at The Wynn for a Sr Engineer position. I never heard back with either good or bad news on that so I sent my resume to IGT to essentially do the same work I had done for Bally. I got the interview and got the job.

So 5 resumes sent out got me 5 interviews and 4 offers and 3 jobs.

So yeah, there are IT jobs in the valley. Just get out there and find them.

Skills trump attitude, initiative, connections, and perspiration. Original lesson from Napoleon Dynamite, thanks for the refresher. (not to denigrate your attitude, etc. I'm sure you have those along with your techie skills.)

If there are any leads that someone could give me on companies that are hiring I would appreciate it. I'm searching all the job boards, casinos, etc. But I've found networking, excellent recruiters and going directly to company websites help. So if you have any executive recruiters or companies I may try I would appreciate it. I worked 20 years at General Motors in a Global IT Program Management position, I've worked as a Director of IT for American Eagle and as a Sr. Specialist for General Dynamics. My experience can be summed up as the first 10 years in hands on systems, blazing trails, project management and daily operations. Next 13 years in management (Operations, Infrastructure, Software development, etc.).
