The quotes I'm getting for the same level of coverage I had in NH are about $120/month! I have had 1 speeding ticket in the last 3 years, no accidents. Is Vegas really that dangerous a place to drive that my premium would go up almost $1000 a year out here?? It just seems like a huge jump to me.
I'm going to be moving to the area from New Jersey. $1000 per year sounds sweet to me. When we first got our car, which is in my wife's name, our insurance in New Jersey was almost $4000 per year because my wife, who is from another country, had her US driver's license less than 3 years. Now, years later, our insurance is "down" to about $2800 per year. So if you think LV is ridiculous, try living in New Jersey. For years, State Farm wouldn't even try covering NJ, although I think they may have entered the state recently.

Of course, your home/garaging neighborhood (safe/unsafe) matters, as does the nature of your daily commute and your probable annual mileage.

We own a 200 Honda Accord EX 4 doors. Ours is $626 every 6 months. In hawaii, we only paid $288 for 6 months. Go figure!

If any driver in your household is over 50, you can get cheaper insurance through AARP- Hartford. We pay $86 a month for a 1998 Ford Ranger extended cab pickup and a 1999 Chrysler Sebring convertible ($1032 a year for two vehicles). That is full coverage/collision with a $500 deductible on older cars, but transport is transport. I have yet to find anything better. We are both excellent drivers, I have a defensive driving card from work and my husband is a pilot. However, I had to pay a little more due to being rear ended 5 years ago, but the rates are still cheaper. You don't have to be an AARP member, either. It's worth a call.

Bottom line is that each driver's circumstances and driving record are different, and Vegas is one of the most expensive places in the country to insure a vehicle for reasons already described on this board.

I just moved here from Seattle where I was paying $550 to insure 2 sportbikes per year ($500 deductible..full coverage)...Just talked to my new agent down here (same ins co) and the rate increased to $1500 with a $1000 deductible!! TRIPLE THE COST!! Odd thing is that my boat insurance actually went down.

Less boats in LV than in Seattle...not a shock there. Less boats mean less boating accidents mean less insurance claims mean less in premiums to be paid.

Same with sport bikes...more open land in LV to ride them. More land means more bikes mean more biking accidents mean more insurance claims mean higher premiums.

When it comes to insurance...it's all about the law of averages. You only win when something bad happens to you. Otherwise the insurance company wins.
