You couldn't pay me enough to go to NYC again.
Terrible weather. Terrible traffic. Terrible people. Terrible traffic. Terrible drivers. Terrible filth. Terribly expensive.

Don't pick just one over the other. They are two vastly different experiences, and you should try to enjoy them both.

FWIW, most non-gamblers and non-park/hiking people I know that have stayed in LV for 7 days tell me that 3-5 days would have been enough for them, but depending on what your interests are, you can find plenty to do to fill a week if so inclined.

Just about everyone should try to visit Las Vegas at least once, if for no other reason than its like no other city in the world.

I agree 7 days might be a bit much...

My beloved uncle once told me that some cities have an energy all their own and you must visit them to experience it. He mentioned Paris, NYC, and Las Vegas.
I'd say come to Vegas for four days while you are still on the west coast, and hit NYC after you move.

I has vastly more culture than Vegas, if you're into that.
