I need a local number. I'm hoping that is why I haven't been getting called back for jobs. My current phone is through ATT and they want a bunch of money to change my number. My contract will be up soon and I'm not sure I want to go with them again. 100 a month is a bit high considering I paid full price for my phone (700.)
Anyway, I need to get something cheap that works well for phone calls. I know some of the providers can be sketchy in some areas (like straight talk was useless in NC) so what's a good company to use?
I won't need texting or data, just minutes.

T-Mobile has a good plan - spend 100 and get 1,000 minutes good for a year. That will get you a local number

Walk into walmart. Buy a Tracfone and add minutes to it. Phones are as cheap as 9.99 and you can buy minutes whenever you want.

As mentioned, google voice is your best option. You can get a local 702 number that you can port to your current cell phone to ring it directly. All for free...

As long as you already have a smart phone, go with Google Voice. This is what some of my co-worker's spouses use that want to keep their home town local number yet need a LV # to put on applications/resumes.

You should start getting calls next week. Most don't even interview around christmas/new years. I wish you luck but still think you shouldn't have quit without giving notice. That is going to hurt a lot with your chances....

I haven't had any problems getting call backs for an interview with my out of state phone number. I think prospective employers know that many new residents choose to keep their out-of-state cell numbers. I had never heard of Google voice. I learn so much here
