My fiance and I were in Las Vegas just this past weekend and after having a few cocktails at one of the bars in the Monte Carlo,(I forget the name of it but it's right at the entrance in the center and it's not the minus 5 bar either), and when it came time to pay the bill I noticed there was an "Entertainment tax" added to the bill which was almost $5 dollars. This was in addition to the regular tax on the check. There was no entertainment going on besides the TV showing the local news station.

Can someone explain what this "Entertainment Tax" is? It's been driving me crazy and I really wished I would have asked out waitress but we were in a bit of a rush so I didn't ask.

From what I've gathered (correct me if I'm wrong, please) you'll see "L.E.T." on your bill if you are in a place that offers live music, even if there is no one performing while you are there. It is the "Live Entertainment Tax". This is different than the "Entertainment Tax" which, again, I believe, is still in the legislature, that will charge an 8% tax on any venue where an admission is charged.

Hey, we don't have income tax, gotta get it somewhere
