Suggest leaving a faucet or two running very slowly over night...

I may need to have you check my place. I'm worried this time. I did wrap my pipes last year outside on the water heater.

Funny you would mention this. I just received this picture today from my sister. I think it might have been caused by the hose being attached. My bad for not reminding her to unscrew it. In any event, a plumber is going to replace the whole shebang. This is an outdoor faucet that also has a timer for the pool filler.

no thank god... but last year the neighbor did and they were out of town. thankfully I turn off their water after seeing it spraying, and the ice sculpture was only about 4 feet tall.

We had an open spot in the foundation that let in cold, back in NC. They would freeze but they never burst thankfully. It went below zero. We just turned on the faucet, just enough to get a dribble going, and didn't have any more frozen pipes.

Croce, we had an outdoor faucet that was wrapped and the next morning, it looked just like your picture. We hit it with a heat gun and it thawed in a few minutes and began to run. This time it really got wrapped up well.

The thing to keep in mind is that insulation only slows down temperature change. It is not a magical shield. And for things like the garage door, insulation can actually make things worse. (The garage heats up because the sun is more powerful than the insulation. And then the insulation traps IN the heat for the rest of the day.)

With pipes, run some water through them regularly. I don't recommend leaving the taps open. But opening them a few times a day is all it takes in this climate. This isn't Alaska, after all.
