I bought my current car in El Paso, TX, a year ago and have an excellent payment history. I do not have excellent credit or even good credit at this juncture, but am slowly working my way back towards it. Illness and a lot of medical bills put me very far in the debt hole. Anyway, I contacted the place where I have my loan and inquired about refinancing for a lower amount. She says that unfortunately they are not licensed to refinance, but I am welcome to try other lenders. Does anyone have any suggestions about lenders here in Vegas who deal with less than perfect credit situations? Thanks in advance.

I would try a credit union. They are better rates than finance companies, and not as strict as banks.

Thanks, Diana.

Edited to ask if it's necessary to belong to one in order to get financing? I'm with Chase but there is no way I will be approved for a loan.

I agree. They all have different membership rules, but I think One Nevada Credit Union is the one almost anyone can join, and they have decent rules. Lots of advertizing. Thats the one I'd try first. . Good Luck.

This place. They send my wife all kinds of offers to refinance her vehicle almost weekly. We got an offer in the mail for 2.3% a couple of months ago. I called to check it out, after some verification, I got them down to 2.1%. Now USAA is emailing 1.9% offers to refinance. I can get used to this. :-)

I'd try the credit unions that DON'T advertise. Look at it this way -- someone is paying for all those radio spots and billboards. I always gravitate to companies that don't need to advertise. If you're in a debt hole as you say, finding a way to eliminate the monthly car payment entirely would be the best option of all.

You probably have excellent credit.......With poor credit, that's not going to happen...

Now I do. I didn't used to though. Used to be at 590ish. Took a lot of work and discipline to gain a couple hundred points.
