I don't have any personal, first-hand knowledge that the payola system is alive and well on the strip. But I have plenty of second-hand information saying that it is.

Every dealer wants to work the baccarat table where whales bet $100,000 per hand. There are several ways to get there, but I'll wager that paying off a manager is the most direct.

I got to deal on those tables the old-fashioned way, I guess..

And while that is my favorite game to deal, it would make absolutely zero sense to pay to deal there, as I believe (correct me if I am wrong) all of the major strip casinos that would be able to cater to said whale pool their tips. The only dealers I have seen who keep their own tips are at the small, off-strip places. When I was dealing in the high-limit room, it wasn't uncommon to take in $20K+ per night in tips. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that dealers in the high limit rooms are not making $6M+ per year.

Yes it is and both still go on today . Over the years we have seen the payoffs involved to obtain the rights to operate in Macau and Marina Bay. Fixed casino promotions to a select handful of patrons. Casino hosts providing illegal drugs and prostitution to the high end patrons. High ethical standards are not the strong suit of this industry.

Let's tell it like it is. High ethical standards are not the strong suit of this entire city.

Some dealers want to deal in the high limit room to meet the right cliental for their own personal motives. Usually the payment is not monetary.

Ah, understood. To each his own, I guess. I just enjoyed dealing there because it wasn't the boring $25 blackjack that makes a dealer want to jump out the window..

The property where I work does not pool tips. It's on the strip. And it has many high-limit areas. I imagine there is much graft going on to get to those areas. But I don't know for sure. I hardly ever talk to the dealers.

Why? The tips are split evenly between ALL the dealers...

Unless tipping habits are different there, that would make every high limit dealer a millionaire. It is understandable that one would pay thousands for the position, knowing they could make it back in 1 day. My highest tipped day on Bacc was $35-40K. But I worked for the largest casino in the W. Hemisphere, and our tips were split among just over 3000 dealers.

If you are on the strip; tips are pooled.
