Are there others out there that love Las Vegas as much as I do?

Summer is my favorite season, and at the same tme, I love the change of seasons here.

Here are a few of the things I love about Las Vegas:

- Warm summer nights and mornings where you can wear your flip flops and shorts, or nothing at all, and still, be comfortable.
- Four Seasons
- Wild rides on the Strip.
- Shows on he Strip.
- Broadway and Symphony at the Smith Center
- Buffets - M, Caesars, Wynn, Rio, and Planet Hollywood are my favorites.
- Red Rock Canyon, Mount Charleston, Valley of Fire, etc...
- Day trips to Laguna Beach, San Diego, LA, Santa Barabara, Sedona, Grand Canyon, Zion, Yosemite, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Lake Tahoe, etc.
- First Friday on Fremont
- Sun, Sun, Sun, all year and the weather all year!
- dune buggy and zip lining
- Rodeo, Billboard Music Awards and ACM each and every year
- Willow beach and renting boats
- Super Summer Theatre
- Floyd Lamb Park and all of the birds
- Desert Shores and all of the birds

I Love Las Vegas, so much, any other lovers out there lol?

- it's not too big. i lived a long time in los angeles and there are just too many people crammed far too close together there.
- the gun laws generally favor liberty.
- it's a global destination. people from all over the world are familiar with the city and travel to spend time here.
- the strip is loaded with entertainment. giant pools, amusement rides, concerts, stage acts.
- homes are inexpensive.
- bats fly around my backyard at night and i just think that's cool.
- it's warm most of the time. and when it's hot, it's not humid.
- i prefer rock landscaping to trees, bushes and weeds everywhere.
- the city is surrounded by 10,000+ foot mountains. the view from eastern south of the 215 of the whole city is great day and night.
- it's a short day's drive from los angeles.
- there is no state income tax.
- property tax is calculated to be pretty low. under 2k per year on a 200k+ house.
- i have fond memories of being here when i was younger nearly 20 years ago.
- the roads are laid out well with future expansion accounted for. it is so nice to see roads like st. rose parkway that are surrounded by desert but have 4 lanes in both directions already.

that's all for now...
Trying to think of something to add, but only came up with the fact that we have some nice museums now. Not world class, but nice.

Oh, yeah, we can snow ski and water ski (or play golf in short sleeves) in the same day.

Hate to change anything you two said, but mchlkirk77, we only have two seasons here in the Valley: summer and January. Unless you meant four seasons up on the mountain, or up the road in southern Utah. But that's another plus. A short drive away and we can have any season or weather that we are Jonesing for at the time.

Both of these are extremely nice posts. I hate all the negativity we get from the same old a-holes all the time. And it's not just here. Look at posts from any city and you get all kinds of belly aching. Much ado about nothing. But some people wouldn't be happy in a vat of warm chocolate and Cherry Garcia ice cream.

I don't live in Las Vegas but I know I would really be happy there. I live in the Inland Empire in So Cal so the weather would not be a problem as ours is similar to yours. I love the desert and there's plenty to do in Las Vegas and you don't even have to go to the strip. The city has everything you need. The views are amazing from almost anywhere you're at in Las Vegas. You're close to California, Arizona and Utah so the city is nicely located and close to the neighboring states' parks, recreational areas and attractions. I like the entrepreneur spirit in Las Vegas and the city is full of history. The tax situation in your state is a big plus. What's stopping me from relocating there? The job market.

-Cheers!

WE will be snowbirds there when we retire in a few years. It can't come soon enough. We come out two or three times a year now, and each time we do more and more off the strip. Almost all our meals are taken on the west side of town now. We put on over 50 miles a day on a rental car and that's just in the valley.

We know the history of Las Vegas better than most natives and can find our way to just about anything we want to see.

Unlike many tourists, we know and love the area off the strip. And as many have said, relocating to Las Vegas is what you make of it.

Hey brdd! Us too as total retirement starts Nov 2014. We've been coming to Vegas since 1982 about 2 or 3 times a year from Canada and pretty well can get anywhere without having to hit a freeway. Almost all our meals are taken on the east side of town as that's where we bought our condo. Our friends bought at the Soho and will be snowbirds too starting next year. Although I love the view of the Strat from their place and being near Fremont St, I like the residential feeling of the east side. After checking out all the different directions, starting from the Strip as most people do, I liked the far east mid-valley. Perhaps we will all be able to meet one day, spend a pension cheque, and celebrate LV and the fact of NO MORE WORK!

What I love about Las Vegas.

I was able to find my first teaching job here, much easier than my hometown, Alabama.
I just got back from a 4 day trip to Yosemite and Bodie Historic Park. Amazing.
Will be going to Zion for Christmas
Free thursday night bands at the Blvd Pool at the Cosmo.
Weather is awesome.
Mountains to look at everyday.
Fremont East is booming (good and bad)
Multitude of options for entertainment on the strip
All the national parks within 4-5 hours of Las Vegas
Its proximity to other states.
Western culture/history is awesome.

Things i dont like about Vegas

Its hard to make friends in a big city. Meetup, volleyball, and WAKA kickball has helped somewhat
Thats really about it. If I had a few more friends to hang out with often, itd be perfect.

Two seasons...summer and January? I was there in December and it was pretty darn cold IMO. Too cold for me!

That pic that Von posted of the dudes with the giant margaritas...I have one of those glasses. Bought it my first trip out (Diablo's at the Monte Carlo. I like it because my dog's name is Diablo). It was like $26 and I think they forgot the tequila

But I still have the glass (plastic)

We moved here in July 2012 and moved into our dream home in March of this year. Not everything has gone perfectly but we are very happy. Here are a few things that were happy surprises.

- People are much nicer than i had been lead to believe by this board. Lots of smiling service people, people on the street say hello, and very low hassle atmosphere. I even got a ticket and the cop was really nice to me.
- Craig's List. This kind of goes with the nice people but there is just an amazing amount of good furniture for 1/4 what you would pay in the stores. We even found that exact type of refrigerator, white w/french doors, at a store front outlet for 1/3 the price. We bought a Rachlin couch that retails for over $4000 for $750. Quality outdoor dining set for $150.
- Friends. My wife is Russian and there is a large Russian community. We get together for parties often. Many have kids our sons age.
- Outdoor activities. Until you move here you don't realize how close Vegas is to so many fun things like boating, skiing, hiking, camping. We toured an old gold mine last month in Nelson, NV. The kids loved it. Tomorrow we are going to drive out of the city and watch the meteor shower.

We have barely begun to explore the nightlife, dining opportunities in the city. As someone mentioned, this town has a small town feel with big town amenities.

We will look forward to it, for sure. We will be coming out this November for a week, also.
By the way, I have had an Ontario fishing license every year for 34 years now.

Ah, fellow fishers...In BC we live at a wilderness lake and spend a lot of time fishing...Just last weekend hubbie caught 2 large Kokanees (stocked in our lake) and I got a 2.5 lb rainbow! Anyway, getting off track from OP so hope to keep in touch in the future. I'll be down for a week at the end of this month but the two of us won't be down until Dec 28 to Jan 18th this year.
