Hey everyone, I'm Jodie and new to the forum.

My family and I are moving to NV next March, my husband is with the USAF and we are being send to Nellis AFB next. We are currently living in England, which is also where I am from. So moving to the states for the first time is going to be a big shock for me to say the least!

I have done as much research as I can about areas to live and such but I would rather get info from people who have or are living there So I guess my first question would be what area (within 30ish miles of Nellis) would you recommend to us. We are looking to buy a house once we get there and one important thing to us is being near a good elementry school as our Son will be due to start in a few years. Also we would prefer a quieter part of town.

TIA, Jodie

green valley is nice but the people are not so friendly, the southwest(mountains edge area) is also very nice

Aliante is a good option close enough to Nellis. Plenty of good parks, new schools and shopping.

Here is another old thread that worked Nellis issues. I think this one may have gotten off on tangents as well but some good stuff...

Military Family moving to Vegas. I got a few questions.

We live in Aliante and there are quite a few people in our neighborhood who commute to Nellis. Also, until last July my cousin lived here in Aliante and he worked at Nellis also. He never complained about the commute. My kids don't go to the schools here but the neighbors who have kids in the schools over here really seem to be happy.

Thanks for the reply We have been looking at houses in Aliante and we definitely like the look of the area.

Do you know roughly how long it takes to get to Nellis, my Husband doesn't want to live too far away from base.

TIA.
