let me start off stating the obvious: i like it here. LV suits my style (or lack thereof, depending on who you talk to). i will and do gladly post the reasons for this and will stand up for LV when people put in down. i try to offer helpful advice to people looking to move/visit here based on my personal experiences.

i also feel that the detractors can offer valuable advice; the other side of the coin, if you will. in particular, they can give reasons why they don't like it here and why they would suggest others don't make what they feel is a mistake and move here.

but more often then not (note i am not saying always), detractors give vague negative generalities and offer no personal experiences or examples. they slam this town saying it has no sense of community or is riddled with crime or there is nothing to do etc. etc.

i'm just curious as to why no one ever says things like 'i tried to get involved with _______, but was turned away' or 'i experienced this crime' or 'i moved here, got hooked on ______, ruined my life'. people say this town lacks entertainment, but no one says 'i looked online and in the local papers and could find nothing going on for this friday'.

i understand if people don't like it here...but i think you could provide a better service to people looking to move here than just saying this town sux and giving broad generalizations as to why.

*actually, i kinda like when people throw out blanket statement like 'socially this place sux' or 'people here are mean'....it gives me a chance to cite examples why i have a different opinion, to showcase what i like about LV, and to share when i have a good time (see pic below...taken inside the griffin on halloween...i didn't know them, they adopted me after my friends neglected to hang out properly on halloween...hung out w/ them and their friends for the rest of the night...oh yeah, i am in the middle )

and yeah...pbby, right about the detractors. i understand not liking LV, it is kinda a love or hate place...and no, it'll never compare to living in LA, NY, chicago, DC, or any other city...just as none of them will ever compare to living here. direct comparisons just aren't possible; there are too many variables, too many differences, too many distinctions.

oh well....to each his own, i guess.

You are right. Those types always speak only in broad generalities, and they will take bad news and make it worse. They will also stop good news from being passed along and twist it to make it sound bad.

The truth is there are lots of things not to like about Las Vegas, but they are the same things not to like about Pittsburgh, Chicago, LA, Phoenix, Springfield, Idaho Falls, Albuquerque, Tampa, Dubuque, Peoria, London, Trieste, Rio, Timbuktu, etc., etc.

It just happens that there is more to like about Las Vegas than any of those places and they can't stand anything good or positive. They have to try to ruin things for others. To actually suppress others if they can. That's their stock in trade. Ignore them. They are out to bring you down. The only way to handle such people is to completely avoid them, and to flourish and prosper. It drives them nuts...or should I say...nuttier.
