I'm currently working overseas with my current domicile as Arizona, I plan to come back to the states next year and live in NV for about 6 months to year to update my domicile and then get a new job overseas.

My question is how long do I have to stay in NV to update my residency? And what would be a recommended area to live in and what is the average cost for living expenses for about 6 months?

Domicile is all about intent. Get a Nevada address, then a driver's license and then register to vote. Really not a matter of a specific length of time.

I would recommend Henderson. The average cost of living expenses for a month would be $2000 to $3000.

Be perfect. If not, if you're leaving a state with an income tax, they'll hound you to death. Get a good accountant who knows how to handle all the details.

You will pay AZ tax until you change jobs. If you get a job and they pay you at your NV address you won't owe AZ tax as long as you show evidence you moved. This is part-year residents tax form and they just ask what date you moved. As long as your employer does it right you should not have problems because AZ won't be receiving income reports for you.
