People handle heat differently. I remember hiking to Phantom Ranch at the Grand Canyon and back out years ago. We started at 5am and finished around 7pm. It was grueling and I had prepared for it with plenty of water, electrolytes, etc. I had a special water bladder pack and extra water bottles just in case. I had special sun blocking clothing and a nice wide brimmed hat, zinc oxide, etc. etc. On the way out, near the bottom as each step I took was a drudge, two German tourists wearing t-shirts, shorts, and tennis shoes strolled by us. No packs, no hats, each carrying one small 16 oz water bottle in their hands. Since we never saw them again, they must have made it out alright.

I like to play tourist and occasionally walk the strip during the day. I always bring a big bottle of water with me to keep me hydrated, but it never ceases to amaze me when I see people carrying those big containers filled with alcohol, or people who are already drunk even in the middle of the day when the temperature is over 100. Tourists need to realize that alcohol will dehydrate you, and when you couple that with the heat, even dry heat, you could end up in the ER very fast.
