Net metering is used with renewable sources like solar. When my solar was turned on NV Energy replaced the existing meter with a bidirectional meter which means the meter spins both ways. It spins one way when the system is receiving energy from the grid and the other way when the system is sending energy to the grid. Net refers to the difference between the amount of energy received from the grid minus the amount of energy sent to the grid.

Depends. If it is extremely hot, or if it is hot and humid, the swamp cooler won't do much. On those days, AC on FULL BLAST until 12:59pm. Then let the insulation do its job until 7pm.

If it's a dry, 100f day, swamp coolers work great during the afternoon. And they don't take much more power than a ceiling fan. So why not?
