We bought a new build in Inspirada and will (hopefully) be moving in sometime in July. The yard is unfinished and as much as I'd like to say I'd enjoy the thought provoking process of designing and executing my own landscaping after hours and on the weekends, I would be telling quite the lie. We want someone with the design aesthetic and ability to execute to come in, see what we have to work with, come up with a design within our budget, and knock that sucker out. Maintenance? We have no issue with keeping it up ourselves (xeriscape). But the design (especially) and build are not our cup of tea.

I have researched the LV forum all the way back to 2010 (and yelp and google...angie's list not yet, because you have to become a member and I have no idea if they even cover designers) concerning landscape design and execution, with very little out there. All the threads I found have landscape maintenance as the main theme.

So, any specific recommendations (or "stay away from's") for a designer and executor for a barren piece of dirt / back yard? If City Data-LV has discussed specific businesses, my search-fu has sadly missed it.

I hired Mauri Landscapes to design and install xeriscape landscaping in my backyard, and I was very happy with the whole process. I learned about them on Angie's List, where they have 77 recent reviews of which 83% gave them an A grade. The owner of the company came to my house to discuss what I wanted. I was then given the opportunity to review with him the types of plants I wanted (they are very helpful in this regard). I got a full plan diagram with the estimate a few days later, and they completed the work in a timely and professional manner. I also use them for semi-annual clean ups, and I use their tree service for palm tree and other tree trimming and deep root fertilization.

Thank you KKV for the rec. Another on the board also assisted with recommendation via DM. Between you two, I now have some "known" options to go with as we plan this move out.

skug,

Yep, if everything goes to he'll in a hand basket, we might. Between my job, my spouse probably being hired on within the CCSD as a teacher, and the short time allowed before those both spool on us, we'd rather not have a backyard project and just have it done by those in the know.
