Hello all, I'm nearing retirement and LV is on my short list. I know the city mostly as tourist and would like feed back from locals about Painted Desert single family homes as a place to buy and live. Is this a well managed community? Considered a good area to live? The community itself looks good but what about the surrounding area? Anyone live there who can put some "meat on the bones" for me? Any and all info would be appreciated. Thanks

Painted Desert is ok.. Little old and run down.. Nothing special.. Also surrounding area is nothing special..

If you're 55+ without any kids, check out Sun City Aliante, or Sun City Summerlin, or Sun City Anthem, or MacDonald Ranch in Henderson.. These areas are far superior and probably not much difference price wise depending on what you're looking for..

Las vegas as a whole to me sems like a good place to retire.. I see many people taking the senior transportation not to mention all the seniors walking arounf casino's with oxygen tanks or in wheel chairs or cains.. There has to be a reason for some of the geezers (Not far from geezerdom myself) to get out and about. Not to also mention all the shows and entertainers to be seen.. Oh yea one more thing.. Many buffets so cooking isn't an issue..

Strong disagreement. Painted Desert overall is in quite good shape. There are a some inexpensive condos that are nothing special but there are also some tracts that are extremely nice and high end. The overall place is lovely and well maintained. Security is tight and the common areas are well kept. It is not a great golf course but it does provide some nice views.

I would rate it higher than the lower end senior communities though not up to the top of Siena, Sun City Summerlin and Sun City Anthem.

It does not have the amenities or social activities of the Sun Cities. So if you are a joiner or a craftsman you might be happier in the mature places.

It is also across the street from one of the major mall complexes. So restaurants and regular shopping is very convenient.. It also has a Cracked Egg - the best of the breakfast and lunch places in LV.

Off of Lone Mountain in the northwest, correct?

I like that area of town. Rural feel, but close to everything. I know at least ten good restaurants within ten minutes of the place. I live just outside Aliante, but I'd recommend Painted Desert before Sun City Aliante, because of the proximity to Boca Park, Summerlin, the mountains, etc.
