Hello all, I just stumbled across this forum while looking for some forums that were table game dealer specific. Seems the few that were around during the "boom" times have dried up. Anyhoo, I like it here, and can see myself posting from time to time. I'm a craps dealer on the strip, have lived in Vegas for prolly 15 years. If anybody has any questions feel free to ask.

What's the most you have seen someone win in one night? Did they lose it back the next night?

What's the market for dealers right now. I know it was terrible in the depths of the recession, but have they started hiring again?

I play mostly poker. Poker dealers I've talked to tell me that's the best game, incomewise, but I'm skeptical. Are you better off being a generalist table game dealer, or a poker dealer?

Dice Dancy: do you believe that precision throwing is possible... to the point of overcoming house odds? (I'm not talking about the obvious cheating like flat spinning). I'm talking about the Frank Scoblete school of thought. Is that a scam or is there something to dice influencing?

I did this on one of my Vegas trips, and actually made money. Then I discovered poker.

I believe you made money, but a single trip to Vegas is not a big enough number of trials to verify if it was skill or luck. Too much variance. Apparently it takes a lot of practice because it's not just about "dice-setting". It involves how you hold them, consistent arm swing, how much backspin, landing zone, etc.

I figured a Vegas craps dealer with 15 years of experience would have a good idea of whether it was true or just another scam to make people pay $1500 for weekend lessons. I lean towards the latter.

If you are looking for job in Vegas now dealer job is the worst one .
If you are not young "party pit" girl chances are zero you will find a job in decent casino on strip.
MGM properties will hire you only if you know ALL games,DICE included. Caesars casinos,Venetian, are same, only difference is they prefer chinese dealers.
I was other day at Venentian and counted 30 dealers in total, 24 were chinese.
I heard Wynn recently hired some dealers almost without experience, i dont know how that happend....

I believe you have to have some sort of training and certificate from a trusted school for gaming before they hire you. They then train you for their way of business for each casino. In the old days dealers were hired by word of mouth and many of them were long time players the days of the old gentleman dealing cards or running a table is almost gone. Why so many Orientals being hired they work hard show up on time and will work over if needed they will work the off times for gambling and try very hard to move up promotion wise. Don't forget the educational system in the far east countries is far ahead of us in the USA especially Math and Science I have yet seen a Oriental dealer have a hard time doing the math on a gambling table. Your just seeing more of the Multi Cultural society we are now living in America.

Dice influencing is possible but the edge is slim and there are many variables. First, the actual physical toss takes a lot of practice. Then you have to add in the variables. Craps table felts come in different materials to which the dice react differently. For example some Casinos use Microfiber a synthetic material and some use felt. Then you have the other variables like people placing bets in the dice landing zone, drunks sticking their hands out during your toss deflecting the dice and also dealer interference. Also table length enters into the equation. Some tables are 14ft, 12ft and sometimes even 8ft.

Way better to learn how to count cards and/or exploit various player's club promotions. There is a saying which goes something like this "winning at gambling is the hardest easy money you will ever make".

Video Poker also can be beaten but the edge is slim there and only works out most of the time combined with a promotion. Also Video Poker depending on which game you play and at what stakes can be very volitile and you will have serious swings in your bankroll. If I was going to spend $1500 on gambling lessons it would be for a blackjack class but it definitely would not be the one mentioned above.

Yeah, but craps is way more fun than sitting at a video poker machine!
