I have been searching for employment in Vegas for some time now. As a matter of fact, 6 months and still nothing. Starting to believe that it was a mistake to move here.

Is it that hard to find employment here?

BTW, I have a degree, skilled in computers, management and accounting.

I don't think so. My fiancee and I both found employment before we moved here. Perhaps you are looking in the wrong places. Keep hounding potential employers and they will respond one way or another, I promise.

I work for Metro, but I also had an offer from the Venetian about the same time Metro called. My fiance is management at one of the Lake Las Vegas resorts.

We were very persistant and kept open lines of communication between our prospective employers and ourselves. It was to the point where I think we were on the verge of annoying them.

I think that you are waiting too long to take something.......6 months paying rent without working? How much cash did you bring out there? I would take anything now to pay the bills. Security guards are always hiring and pay around 10-12 dollars an hour. It's easy work, usually at night, and can free you up to job search for something better
during the day. Just an opinion. best of luck to you!

Did you attend the job fair at the Thomas and Mack on Tuesday?

If you look back through the threads a little (probably a few pages) you will find other posts stating the same problem as yourself, including myself. Along with the slowing of the economy and housing market, comes no jobs... Be comforted by the fact that there are many others out there with the same problem. People come and go in this town, more coming than going of course, there is competition. I think a crucial component in landing a job is luck, find the right place at the right time. When I first came here almost 2 years ago, I found a job like that... There were jobs and opportunity.

Please, at least get a part-time job, anything! I was a little too stubborn to do that at first, thinking if I sent out enough resumes someone would find me eventually. I'm young, and can't get the best job, but I didn't want fast food. Anyway, I won't go into my saga again... I hope you are being really proactive, and searching hard, calling or stopping by after you drop off a resume is good. The internet gets flooded by applicants, so don't bother with it too much. I went on interviews from internet job postings, and rarely heard back. It's not too great when the interviewer says: I interviewed 6 people already today, or when you receive a message for an interview, call back 10 minutes later and they say, I'm sorry we're not taking any more interviewers. Ay! Anyway, this post is already longer than I intended, and I am so tired from my 'job', that my fingers aren't cooperating. Good night, I gotta get up in the morning!

Default Thanks Guys and Gals

Luckily I had money saved in this sort of event. Thinking about moving back to Cali. Granted Cali costs alot to live, but at least there are jobs there.

Your background may be a problem. There is not a large market here for people with degrees. The one's that are, have exactly the skills you do. We are a service industry town, that in large part pays little, and mostly to unskilled people, or people with trades, not degress. The unemployment rate here is climbing now too. Good luck.

this town is a grade A ****hole, a town built on ****ing over the next person, I have another 2 months and I cant wait to get the **** out of here

If you have no problem ****ing over your fellow person you should be able to get a good job at the Casino, just tell them you are cutthroat have no morales or decency and you will do whatever you can to make sure the Casinos get as much profits as possible, I guarantee they will hire you on the spot
