I believe they have a traffic control center and cameras to monitor the major highways. I remember reading that.

Then they use these signs to give detour or alternate route information to drivers, so they can get around congestion or an accident.

Have you ever been directed off an Interstate highway because of an accident, and then been left to navigate other highways or surface streets in a town you don't know?

I remember being on a highway I had never been on before, when police directed me off the highway. Why? They were having a PARADE for the local high school football team's homecoming. I had no idea where the county road they directed me onto went. There were no signs or flagmen to direct me back to the highway. The idiots assumed that everyone who used the highway was a local who knew the roads.

This electronic sign can fix such problems.

But it should be illegal to close any highway for anything as unimportant as a parade, a sporting event, a rock concert, or anything else that is not an emergency or construction.
