At 160,000 lbs max take off weight, an A320 is a mere child, while Heavies along the lines of the 747 and double deck A380 can exceed a million pounds. But given that highways are only built to handle 80,000-lb trucks, chances are that the initial setdown would really make a mess of the pavement - and even more of the plane. Light Cessna-types or even Lear jets, sure, the rest, methinks not.

You don't know much about the desert. The surface is pretty tight...and much may require dynamite to move.

Generally you can make a landing strip that will handle most anything with a scraper.

This ain't midwest loam.
