How about just conserving because it's the right thing to do? Besides, if you conserve enough water, your bills will go down, not up. Yes, you'll pay more per gallon, but use significantly less water. Same with electricity.

Our house is around 3,700 sqft. And our highest power bill this year has been $90. We spend around $12 per month on water. All of this conservation stuff pays dividends, on top of being good for the planet.

It's interesting that this thread started today. Because today I'm replacing my toilet innards with a dual-flush system. Toilets are the biggest water hogs in the house. And the dual flush system uses significantly less water when flushing a "Number One." Press the lever the other direction and it sends a full flush for a "Number Two."

$20 per kit. My toilet bolts and flappers needed replacing anyway. It will pay for itself in roughly a year.

If a few people conserved their rates would go down. However, if everybody conserved then rates would go up. Utilities like NV Energy are guaranteed a certain rate of return. In the event of wide spread conservation they would request a rate increase to maintain their profits.

The thing is, I do conserve to the extent that I can. I'm one that do care about the environment, but what they're doing is not right at all. And our legislature didn't help by enacting that legislation.

I am tired of always have to conserve more and more every year, yet the rates keep going up. Our income does not go up to keep up with it. They can stuff it.
