Yeah its way too hot for an NBA or NHL team. I mean who would put up with that blistering 80 degree heat in the walk from the parking lot to the arena in October.

Pit bosses? Whales? Strippers? (only appropriate if they had a defense that was adept at stripping the ball away from ball carriers. Slappers? Shrimp Cocktails? (Okay, you can tell I'm out of ideas).

I like the Sin City Sinners as a name. But if that were the case I don't believe that green would be a good color for them. It would have to be along the line w/ the UNLV Red and Black in that case.

Why doesn't Las Vegas have it's own team?
Several reasons. The main one given by the leagues is the presence of legal gambling on sporting events. The NFL has gone as far as to threaten local hotels with lawsuits if they use the name of the game for their Super Bowl parties, and they have refused to accept Las Vegas advertising for the Super Bowl. This man's opinion is that this is asinine, since it isn't the legal gambling they should be afraid of. Me betting $20 on the Broncos isn't going to upset the balance of power in the NFL. An illegal gambler paying a quarterback, a coach or a referee thousands of dollars to influence the outcome of a game might. On several occasions, Las Vegas sports books have tipped off professional leagues and the NCAA about unusual movement in a betting line, and several improper things have been caught as a result. Without legalized and regulated gambling, that safeguard isn't there.

Another is the abundance of entertainment options, and the large proportion of the population working in 24-hour industries. Many people work nights and weekends and couldn't attend many games. There are also no suitable facilities for a professional team in any sport, so something would have to be built. In most major cities the city has kicked in at least part of the money for new facilities, and the economy here simply won't allow it, at least for now. It would be quite a risk for a developer to put up that much money with nothing more than the hope that a team would move here.

As far as a nickname, please, nothing with a gambling reference and nothing else that panders to the NFR crowd (we already have the Wranglers). Colors, could be pretty much anything.

My personal opinion is that pro sports would work here. Most of the things the city has to offer were built for tourists. Those of us who live here have little to call our own. I'm hoping for that day. My personal hope is for Major League Baseball, but anything would be a start.
