I just came back from a trip where I stopped in LV and then 3 days later in
Phoenix (stayed in Scottsdale). then back to Chicago.

....I done this same route a number of times and it has always felt
cooler in LV, than Phoenix...regardless the time of the year.
Anyone else think this is true?

Yes, they are generally a few degrees warmer/hotter than Las Vegas. But when it's triple digits, it can be hard to tell the difference.

Three or four degrees and a good dollop of humidity. Note however in the winter Phoenix is three or four degrees warmer which is nice.

I'm not a weatherman, but Phoenix is not only 265 or so miles SOUTH (closer to the equator) than Las Vegas, it is also 1,000 feet lower in elevation. In the Mojave Desert, at least in the Las Vegas Valley, lower translates to hotter. It also usually translates to colder in winter, but again Phoenix is 265 miles further south (highway miles).

Tell you how to tell about the winters Buzz. You can grow bougainvillea and ficus benjamin outside in Phoenix. Not in Las Vegas. That is the 4 or 5 degree winter differential. So my step daughter has an 8 inch Ficus and my two inches have to be moved inside for the winter.

And it is not fair. Pull for global warming.

I've got a big old bougainvillea in my backyard. I also grow blackberries, raspberries, lemons, basil and tomato back there. You can keep Pheonix. I spent time there for work, I hated it.

Since I don't live in the desert, I wasn't sure whether just being south of a city resulted in warmer weather, even if just a bit...I had read that Tucson, which is about 100 miles SOUTH of Phoenix, was actually cooler than Phoenix.. (I'd agree once it's over 100 degrees it probably makes no difference.)

Tucson climate is about the same as Las Vegas. Altitude has its role. My mother lived for some years in Sierra Vista...which is south of Tucson...but no warmer. Altitude again..

Elevation of Tucson is a little higher than Las Vegas. Haven't been to Sierra Vista in 40 some years, but as I recall there were trees, and the mountains were within a few short miles, so it must be higher than Tucson.
