There is a radio shopping show that has great deals for hotels, dining and more, you can check it out on line. The large casino's will send out emails to locals regarding discount room rates you just need to get on their list I get them all the time. We aren't big gamblers but we like to go to the shows and we will call and see if there is a locals discount some places like Wynn won't advertise that they offer locals discounts you have to ask. Other wise right now most of the Cirque shows are offering a great locals discount right now.

Some like to get drunk and don't want to have to bother with arranging travel back home until they have sobered up.

Some like to take a quiet, relaxing break or even a nap and don't want to bother having to travel home and then back to the casinos again to do so.

Some like to include engaging in activities not advisable to do in public, but don't want to travel back home, or may not have adequate privacy at home.

Some simply enjoy a little getaway time from home without taking a full blown vacation.

I can think of several other reasons a local professional advantage player or serious gamer might want a room. I suspect there are numerous other reasons why a local might want a room that I haven't thought of.
