So yes. I have been planning on moving out to the greatest city for some time. Las Vegas has been a second home for some time and has long ago captured my heart.

So as I plan this big jump I have to ask the folks on this board for some advice. I'm really very touched by the loyalty and passion that most people have for the city (even the negative comments are pretty passionate). I need those people to come forward and share their experiences.

Specifically, if you could identify the biggest mistakes that someone in my situation--someone planning on moving to Vegas--could make...what would they be? I'm not talking about the snide ("stay where you are") or the obvious ("don't move out here without getting a job first", "don't come out here if you have a gambling problem").

I'm talking about those jewels of wisdom that though the locals all know, most inbound people never hear about until they get out here and then say "if I only knew!". Like "never rent a downstairs apartment" or "Never try to get your utilities hooked up on the day after a holiday". THOSE sorts of things. The little snarls that can make a day flow easily (if avoided) or go on forever with frustrations.
