Hi,
I was just told that in Vegas, you have to walk through the casino in order to get to the hotel. Is this true? I was under the impression that kids couldn't walk through the casino and there had to be an entrance to the hotel portion that wasn't connected to the casino, but a gentleman told me that you have to walk through the casino in order to get to the hotel. Please help clear this up. Thank you

Which Casino? Some casino/hotels (like Aliante) you can walk directly into the hotel without walking through the casino, although not if you used the covered parking.

Most of the strip casinos you can enter the hotel lobby directly from the street, but not from the parking garage elevators.

It just depends on where you enter. All hotels have a lobby entrance but it is usually most accessible by car...not necessarily the most convenient entrance if walking on foot. Children are allowed to walk through casinos with parents. They prefer you stay on the main paths and definitely no stopping to look at the machines and all the pretty lights. Many casinos have kid-friendly activities (bowling, movie theaters, Kids' Quest, arcades) that are in the actual casino not the hotel part. They expect children to be there, just no hanging around in gaming areas.

Under 21 can be in the casinos, they just can't sit in any Casino chair that is by a machine. nd true, you have no choice but to walk by machines to get to anywhere in any of the casino hotels.

any person of any age can AND WILL HAVE TO pass thru the casino frequenty [in most cases] I GNU JOISY you have to have access without passing thru gamng [another typically stupid gaing law that kept Joisy from being what it coud have been]

I most places in Nevada you must pass thru the casino [or at least thru the slot area] to reach any poind in the building....

Restaurant to the front door.....thru the casino
Front door to the rooms...........thru the casino
Rooms to the pool..................thru the casino

ya start to get the picture that Nevada IS ABOUT GAMING......

NOW any person of any age may pass thru the casino to get from point "A" to point "B" WHEN ACCOMPANIED by an ADULT but may not stop even to tie his shoe...."Keep movin there"

A number of the Casinos have access to the registration desk without passing through the casino. Bellagio comes immediately to mind. And Sun Coast Requires a small excursion along the edge of the casino.

Rampart and Marriott both provided access without going anywhere near the casino.

Many of the casinos have floor plans on their site. Or go here

What I liked about MSS was the abilty to go right from the parking area to the lobby to the hotel, avoiding the casino completely

Thanks so much for the quick and thorough responses. What he exactly said was, "I was walking through the casino to get to my room, because you have to walk through the casino to get to the hotel and I saw a game of blackjack that was $25k per hand." Both of those statements seemed unreal, but I guess they're true.

Because you mentioned kids in the casino most of us assume you may be worried that they will be corrupted by seeing adults gambling. Having lived here most of my life, my experience is that by the time kids get to be adults in Las Vegas, none of that fazes them very much, although chances are that if you grow up here you'll stay here, and will probably work in the hospitality/entertainment industry.

Percentage-wise, there are as many problem gamblers in Podunk, USA, as there are in Nevada even though, percentage-wise, we have more gamblers' anonymous type groups than Podunk, USA, has to work with problem gamblers. But most long time locals tend to see the sounds of gaming as background noise.

However, we, including our 300,000 school-aged kids, realize locals can have whatever entertainment we want whenever we want. I think most of us who have been around a long time tend to gamble or go to shows very infrequently, if at all. Many times I've heard people kicking themselves (me especially) for not seeing old so and so on stage before he died, as our feeling is they will always be there when we want to see them.

And who among us Las Vegans hasn't been disappointed to hear some tourist won the multi-million dollar jackpot on a Megabucks machine because it was our own intention to play it at least once before it hit. That means we just have to wait until the tourists build the progressive jackpot back up enough to make it worthwhile for us to turn off our TV's and get off the couch to go play it before it hits again; and I can't remember ever hearing of a local resident hitting Megabucks.

Almost all casinos have Green Zone/Red Zone maps of the floors/areas where kids can be.

I knew there was atleast one.
Jan. 26, 2000: Las Vegas cocktail waitress Cynthia Jay-Brennan, 37, won $34.9 million on a Megabucks machine at the Desert Inn. Six weeks later, a habitually drunk driver rear-ended her car, killing her sister and leaving her paralyzed.

There are others:
Nov. 15, 1998: A 67-year-old retired flight attendant from Las Vegas had only intended to put $100 at the slot machine in Palace Station. She ended up putting in $300, but the Megabucks machine rewarded her with $27.5 million.
Sept 15, 2005: In an improbable display of beating the odds, Elmer Sherwin, 92, of Las Vegas won his second Megabucks jackpot by hitting $21.1 million at the Cannery Casino in North Las Vegas. Sherwin had previously won a $4.6 million in 1989 at the Mirage. He said it had been his "lifelong dream" to win it twice.
