Angie's list might be a good place to start.

If you need a reference, I could find the names of the two guys we hired locally, who unpacked the truck that we drove from LA to here. Best money I ever spent, they unpacked the truck on one of the hottest days last summer, and it only cost me around $150 I think (2 hours x 2 people x $30/hr plus a tip).
The 2 people you hired were for unpacking only, they are not movers, they didn't move your stuff from LA to LV in 2 hours for $150, did they?

I just contracted with upack.com based on a recommendation on this board. They have good reviews on several sites so I made the leap of faith. Of course, with these movers all they do is offer a container, drop it off, and deliver it to your destination. It will cost me $3300 for 20 feet on a 28' container. (About 1400 sq.ft.) Chicago to Boulder City.

These guys are cheaper than any movers and cheaper than packrat.com ($3700 for 1000 sq.ft.). Comparable to renting a Penske truck but I don't have to drive which is something I wanted to avoid.

My move should be pretty easy. About 4 miles away. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it we left most of our stuff in Costa Rica and it went with the house when we sold it. We tried not to accumulate too much while we were renting for 2 years because we knew would would be buying eventually. I am looking at 4 beds, a washer and dryer and a few dressers. 2 of the beds are king size and the mattresses alone weigh a ton. The rest of my stuff I have been boxing and moving over little by little. Flat screen TVs are going one by one in my car. I am going to look into Warren's Homework to do one trip with the bigstuff. I wonder if they have a minumum.

If you decide to drive a moving truck yourself check out Penske. I went this route and their trucks are much newer and nicer in general than Uhaul. Plus I paid several hundred less for a one way than Uhaul would have cost me.

Thanks. I have learned prayer combined with lots of hard work and goals can bring wonderful things in life. I basically started 3 years ago with a plan and it has worked out perfectly. We sold our home in CR to a good friend in April and then it was a matter of finding the right place before next years school year. I think we will be spending many years in this home. I can't stress the importance of taking some time to set some 3 to 5 year goals. Not just in your mind but actually write them out. Someone I look up to sat me down a few years ago and had me do this. Don't expect miracles to happen over night but if you give yourself a few years to work with you would be amazed at what you can accomplish. Right now I have one more goal. To get all my crap moved in the next 9 days. I think I'll make it!!!
