By this time next year, I will be in a much better place financially. My car will be either paid off (or down to last 5 payments or so) I have begun saving some money (whether or not I'll come back to LV is a different story, I'm saving money regardless) if I DO choose to come back to LV next year I will be vested in my Publix stock and have the option to sell my shares (I still have my old stock as well as stock I am currently earning) which will be an additional $3500-$4000 after taxes plus the total I will have saved between now and next year (at least another $2000)

So if I come back to LV next year, not only will my car be in its final payments, I will be returning with 5x as much money in the bank as I did the first time, enough to get established much quicker and much smarter than I did the first time around.

What I plan to do IF I return to LV

-Enroll at CSN and study something (better than not studying at all)

-Get a PT job and STICK with it until I finish school

-Not drink as much

-Not party AT ALL

-I won't get involved with a girl right away

-Register my car within 30 days (will be able to do so this time around)

-Focus on myself, work, and school

I have some advantages now, I know what the city is like, I have some good friends who just rented a nice place in Summerlin who said they'd rent me a room if one was available, among others who I know

Do you guys think I can pull this off?

Jobs are very hard to come by. My stepdaughter looked for employment for almost a year before she got a part-time offer at a discount clothing store. Not many places are hiring, and the ones who do aren't offering much in the way of hours. Unless you're sure that the cash you are bringing will get you through if you don't find work, I wouldn't do it. Your plans sound very indefinite (for one thing, you don't seem to have any idea what direction to take with your education). It seems very risky to me.

Believe it or not, this plan is much more organized than how I did things the first time

I would be reluctant to cash out the Publix stock. Publix is a solid company, and that stock may come in handy years from now.

Las Vegas is just where I want to be MSChu

I want to get started at CSN and eventually finish my degree at UNLV, probably in hospitality, hotel, or casino mgmt

Don't let the naysayers get you down Davie. If you set your mind to it, you can do it. Just one thing, pay off the car completely before you get here.

I suggest that you cash out your Publix stocks and try your luck at the casinos here. You can double, tripple your money and more !!

I thought you were going back to Orlando? Aren't you the one that Mom Mom gave some good straight talk to a week or two ago?

I don't mind one way or another what you do really. If you're over 18, you should be able to make up your own mind.

That said my recommendations are:

Is 6,000 enough - NO - Have at least 10K before you make the move
Pay the car off completely
Have no debt - (I guess I could live with student loan debt)

I tell my kids this all the time. It is great to WANT TO HAVE SOMETHING, in your case WANT TO BE SOMEWHERE, but sometimes in order to get it/there - You need to sacrifice a little. That sacrifice may be working another 5 months (car will be paid and 5 more months of saving) before you go. Could be as simple as that.

If you are going to school without a plan and borrowing money to do it - You probably deserve every bad thing that may happen to you. Wait, that was a little harsh. How about this? What in the hell is wrong with you? Student Loan debt is a killer. HAVE A PLAN. If you don't have one, MAKE A PLAN.

Sacrifice a little young man, it pays off in the long run.

Las Vegas Drunk - I thought you said you would much rather live in Phoenix but you have to keep your one bedroom apartment and unemployment benefits, so you stay in Las Vegas. I will ABSOLUTELY never understand that logic!
